In Packet - Switching Networks : a Hierarchical Planning Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
We address the problem of planning the cap~ city augmentation of a packet-switching network with given routing and topology under uncertainty of future costs and traffic requirements. Recent advances in hierarchical planning and lagrangean relaxation techniques allow to minimize the present cost plus the expected value of future costs, without exceeding a specified threshold for the average delay.

Data Communications Through Large Packet Switching Networks
The topological design and adaptive routing procedure for computer networks becomes infeasible under their present form as the number of network nodes grows. In this paper we present, optimize and evaluate hierarchical procedures to be used in the case of large networks. These procedures are an extension of present schemes and rely on a hierarchical clustering of the network nodes. Models are d...
متن کاملDimensioning Methods for IP Networks under End-to-End QoS Constraints
This paper considers the QoS design of packet–switching networks. We propose a packet network design and planning approach that considers the dynamics of packet networks, as well as the effect of protocols at the different layers of the Internet architecture on the e2e QoS experienced by end users. Subproblems are derived from a general design problem and a collection of heuristic algorithms ar...
متن کاملHierarchical Coding of Images and Continuous Media for Transmission over Packet-Switching Networks
Hierarchical coding techniques split signals into components of varying importance. The aggregation of these components reconstructs the original data, but subsets of them can also provide various degrees of approximation to the original signal. Hierarchical coding is very important for the efficient use of high-speed packet-switching networks. The main issue for such network architectures is t...
متن کاملBurst Routing Planning for Optical Networks using the Association Rule Approach
The Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is a technology positioned between optical circuit switching (OCS) and optical packet switching (OPS). It is a promising buffer-less DWDM switching technology that provides high wavelength utilization. One of the critical design issues in OBS network is effective planning in minimizing burst dropping resulted from resource contention. In this paper, we attempt ...
متن کاملAlgorithms for IP network design with end-to-end QoS constraints
The new generation of packet-switching networks is expected to support a wide range of communication-intensive realtime multimedia applications. A key issue in the area is how to devise reasonable packet-switching network design methodologies that allow the choice of the most adequate set of network resources for the delivery of a given mix of services with the desired level of end-to-end Quali...
